An apparatus and method for removing and reinserting base member segments in an arcuate slot in an engine part are described. Each base member separately includes blades or stators, holding the engine part in place while manipulating fingers or an arm onto an interfitting abutting relationship with most of the blades. A torque force is applied to the base of the blades to move a base member relative to such an arcuate slot

Theoretical Investigation of Internal Rotation Barriers of 4-(Dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde)

    Get PDF
Theoretical study on 4-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde was done analyzing the barriers of rotation and interpretation of its Raman spectrum. B3LYP Density functional with basis sets up to 6-31G ** with additional f and d functions on C, N, O, and H respectively, calculations were performed. Results indicate trans conformation of the molecule had the lowest energy. Vibrational modes of interest were noted around 500, 1192, 1263, 1316, 1547, and 1608 cm-1. Observed strong enhancement at noted frequencies can be further studied in determining the molecule with other subatomic particles (Ag colloids)

Breaking Kelvin: Circulation conservation and vortex breakup in MHD at low Magnetic Prandtl Number

In this paper we examine the role of weak magnetic fields in breaking Kelvin's circulation theorem and in vortex breakup in two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics for the physically important case of a low magnetic Prandtl number (low PmPm) fluid. We consider three canonical inviscid solutions for the purely hydrodynamical problem, namely a Gaussian vortex, a circular vortex patch and an elliptical vortex patch. We examine how magnetic fields lead to an initial loss of circulation Ī“\Gamma and attempt to derive scaling laws for the loss of circulation as a function of field strength and diffusion as measured by two non-dimensional parameters. We show that for all cases the loss of circulation depends on the integrated effects of the Lorentz force, with the patch cases leading to significantly greater circulation loss. For the case of the elliptical vortex the loss of circulation depends on the total area swept out by the rotating vortex and so this leads to more efficient circulation loss than for a circular vortex.Comment: 21 pages, 12 figure

Psychology ethics down under: A survey of student subject pools in Australia

    Get PDF
A survey of the 37 psychology departments offering courses accredited by the Australian Psychological Society yielded a 92% response rate. Sixty-eight percent of departments employed students as research subjects, with larger departments being more likely to do so. Most of these departments drew their student subject pools from introductory courses. Student research participation was strictly voluntary in 57% of these departments, whereas 43% of the departments have failed to comply with normally accepted ethical standards. It is of great concern that institutional ethics committees apparently continue to condone, or fail to act against, unethical research practices. Although these committees have a duty of care to all subjects, the final responsibility for conducting research in an ethical manner lies with the individual researcher

Pump less wearable microfluidic device for real time pH sweat monitoring

    Get PDF
This paper presents the fabrication and the performance of a novel, wearable, robust, flexible and disposable microfluidic device which incorporates micro-Light Emitting Diodes (Ī¼-LEDs) as a detection system, for monitoring in real time mode the pH of the sweat generated during an exercising period

First Canadian Record of \u3ci\u3eHexacola Neoscatellae\u3c/i\u3e (Hymenoptera: Figitidae: Eucoilinae), A Parasitoid of the Shore Fly, \u3ci\u3eScatella Stagnalis\u3c/i\u3e

This paper documents the first occurrence of Hexacola neoscatellae, a shore fly parasitoid, in Canada. The discovery of H. neoscatellae is significant because currently there are no suitable biological control agents available for shore fly control to the floriculture industry
